It's been a long time... I was very busy at work and the time has flown so fast since my last post. Almost two months!
How are you dear Readers? I'm catching up with your blogs and I'm amazed by all the beautiful projects and pictures I see.
Here is one of my latest finished project. After a hard time trying to understand what I was doing wrong, I finally defeated the bad short rows! I'm talking about the Soay Cardigan of course.
This project was intended to be a KAL with my dear friend Patrizia. We are still in a destashing mood, and this project was part of it. The yarn is actually a gift from her, and we had both decided to knit this cardi with the same yarn. Me in coral pink, she in white. Unfortunately, she had to abandon the project for a indefinite time, so I finsihed alone, but I hope she will soon be able to work on her Soay again. And of course I will share with her all my notes about the pattern.
Pattern: Soay by Gudrun Johnston
Yarn: Schachenmayr nomotta, Catania Solids. Coral pink, 6.5 balls.
Needles: Addi Turbo Circular 3.5mm and 3.25mm
About the Pattern: I'm totally in love with this cropped cardi and it's lovely little flowers! The pattern is very well written and easy to follow. Never a dull moment, there's plenty to do and to think. The finishing took quite a long time though, but it's definitely worth it. Even if I had a hard time figuring the short rows, I learned a lot of new techniques and I'm very happy with that. There will be another Soay in my future for sure!
Mods: I added another set of flowers at the back and made full lenght sleeves. 8 buttons instead of 5. Next time, I will decrease less for the sleeves as they came out a bit tight, and will raise the neckline and increase the width of the shoulders a bit. Oh, and to avoid the nasty holes at the sleeves, after numerous fails (in despair, I even seriously considered wearing it sleeveless :o), I finally decided to not pick-up the wraps of the short rows. The short rows are visible indeed, but at least, it's no more "lacy" ;)
About the Yarn: This yarn is beautiful and knits up like a dream. I never had such an even fabric with cotton. However, I noticed a little pilling under the arm after a few wears and washing, but nothing terrible. Maybe the pilling was accentuated by the tightness of the sleeves?
I'm wearing it happily since a month or so and get compliments each time I wear it. Everyone including me love this cardi, except A. He hates the color, but most of all, he hates the flowers. Oh well, at least, he accepted to take those pretty pictures ;)
